Balloon festival in Maine cancelled for second year in a row amid virus concerns

Lewiston’s Great Falls Balloon Festival is once again impacted by the pandemic, with organizers announcing that the event has been called off for the second year in a row.

In a social media post on Wednesday, organizers said the three-day festival can draw up to 100,000 visitors, which would make it difficult to hold the event even with expanded capacity limits for gatherings.

They said they considered the health and safety of guests, participants and volunteers before reaching a decision, and that they look forward to returning in 2022.
