BANGOR, Maine (WGAN) Bangor Police arrested a man accused of robbery on Thursday night.

Bangor Police Sgt. Wade Betters says police responded to a call on Union Street near Columbia Street around 8:50 p.m. Thursday. They found another man being attacked by the suspect in the middle of the street.

39-year-old Ricky Hendsbee, a transient, was taken into custody after police stopped the attack.

Police discovered that the victim of the attack witnessed Hendsbee burglarizing 72 State Street and confronted him. Hendsbee walked off with a backpack full of items that were burglarized. Police said the complainant followed him, at which point Hendsbee knocked his phone out of his hand when he tried to prevent being photographed.

Hendsbee was taken to Penobscot County Jail on a charge of robbery and violating conditions of release.
