BRIDGTON, Maine (WGAN)  The town of Bridgton says a beach has been closed due to high levels of E. Coli in the water.

On their Facebook page, the town says Highland Lake Beach was shut down Monday after tests found levels of E. Coli in the water to be higher than acceptable levels.

They say swimming lessons typically held at Highland Lake Beach are being moved to Salmon Point.

The reason for the high levels is unknown, though local fowl and low water levels are suggested as contributing factors.

The town says they will continue to give updates on the beach’s closure through Facebook.
