A death in Fairfield has been ruled a homicide.

Public Information Officer Shannon Moss says 62-year-old Edwin Weeks was found dead at a residence on Main Street Tuesday afternoon by a friend who stopped to check in on him.

Late Tuesday night, police attempted to stop a vehicle being driven by 22-year-old Raheem Shamar Goodwin of Benton, who was identified as a person of interest in the investigation. They said Goodwin intentionally drove into a ditch in Skowhegan before barricading himself inside the vehicle and then lighting it on fire from the inside.

Goodwin got out of the vehicle and was taken into custody. He was charged with murder on Friday.

Police said Goodwin and Weeks knew each other.

An investigation is ongoing.
