Workers at the Starbucks store in Biddeford are taking part in a nationwide strike.
According to CBS 13 news, workers at more than 100 stores across the U.S. planned to strike on Thursday, which is Red Cup Day, an annual event when the company gives free reusable cups to customers who order holiday drinks. It’s one of the busiest days of the year for the company.
The store on Alfred Street in Biddeford voted to form a union in July and held their own one-day strike on Labor Day.
Workers say the company has been engaging in unfair labor practices. This week, the company announced the location at Exchange and Middle Streets in the heart of Portland’s Old Port would be closing, a month after workers there voted to unionize.
The company is in talks with union leaders nationwide, though no agreements have been reached yet.
