Biden Administration issues disaster declaration for coastal Maine counties

(WGAN) The Biden Administration has issued a major disaster declaration for Maine following storms that slammed the state in January.

Gov. Janet Mills announced Wednesday that eight coastal counties, including Cumberland and York counties, will be eligible for federal funds to rebuild from the storms.

The severe weather events caused significant flooding and damage.

Public infrastructure repairs are estimated to top $70 million.

Eligible individuals and families that experienced severe property damage will also receive assistance.

FEMA, the Maine Emergency Management Agency and other state agencies will establish disaster recovery centers in affected areas.

More information on the recovery centers and how to apply for assistance will be announced in the coming weeks.
