Body discovered after fire crews respond to Baileyville home

Firefighters recovered a body after responding to a blaze at a home in Washington County.

Crews responded to the home on Summit St. in Baileyville just after midnight Thursday night.

The Maine Dept. of Public Safety says investigators believe the body is that of Craig Thompson, 67, who lived alone in the home.

The body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta.

They will work to determine a cause of death and confirm the identity of the victim.

The State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the blaze.

Officials say there is no indication of foul play.

Firefighters from Calais, Alexander, Princeton and Charlotte, Maine assisted in knocking down the flames.

The fire department in Saint Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada also responded to the home.
