Body found in Belfast identified as missing woman

BELFAST, Maine (WGAN) A body recovered from the water in Belfast on Monday has been identified as a woman who went missing in the area.

According to the Bangor Daily News, workers at Front Street Shipyard found the body in the water near the Armistice Bridge.

Crews last week were searching the Passagassawaukeag River for Joy MacDonald, who hadn’t been seen since September 9th. Her white Nissan was found nearby on Pierce Street near the foot bridge.

The paper writes that Joy’s sister said she had two symbols tattooed on her hipbone, which is how medical examiners were able to identify her.

A cause of death has not been released.
