A diver recovered the body of a Farmington teenager who apparently drowned after jumping off a ledge at the Hallowell Quarry.

The Maine Warden Service says the 15-year-old boy was swimming with three friends Wednesday afternoon when he landed awkwardly in the water and struggled to swim before going under the water.

A diver recovered the boy’s body Wednesday evening.

The body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine a cause of death.

Maine Warden Service Sergeant Josh Beal says they discourage people from swimming in quarries, which can pose several hazards.
