Body of Saco man who fled police found in woods

SACO, Maine (WGAN) Police in Saco are investigating after the body of a man who fled from police over the weekend was found in the woods Thursday morning.

Saco police say hunters approached a State Trooper near the Flag Pond Overpass on the Maine Turnpike around 10:30 a.m. Thursday to tell him they had found a body in the woods nearby. Investigators found the body, and said it belongs to 48-year-old Herbert Winship of Saco.

Police say Winship was involved in a high-speed chase just before midnight on Saturday and ended up fleeing on foot into the woods. Police were unable to locate him after that.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
