An Iraqi man was arrested in Ellsworth this fall after trying to buy guns.

Customs and Border Patrol say the man, who has not been identified, attempted to buy an AK-47 assault-style rifle and a 9-millimeter pistol before he was arrested on Oct. 20.

Border officials say he had overstayed his visa and gave false information on background check paperwork while trying to purchase the guns.

The case is now being handled by Border Patrol.
