A 15-year-old boy who broke his leg on Tumbledown Mountain had to be rescued on Sunday.

The Maine Warden Service says the boy fell 60 feet down the mountain after he slipped and fell around 1:50 p.m. Sunday.

The Maine Warden Service as well as volunteers and members of nearby fire departments responded. They hiked a mile to where the boy had fallen and decided to have him flown out by a Maine Forest Service helicopter.

The boy suffered a compound fracture of his left leg. He ended up at Maine Medical Center where he was treated.
