Bucksport woman charged with arson after going missing for a week

BUCKSPORT, Maine (WGAN) The State Fire Marshal’s Office says a Bucksport woman missing for a week after her home was badly damaged by fire was arrested Tuesday night and charged with setting the fire.

Investigators say 56-year-old Aza Jerome was charged with arson after she was released from Eastern Maine Medical Center late Tuesday night. She was found yesterday at the Craig’s Brook federal fish hatchery in Orland after police and game wardens had been looking for her since the fire on Veteran’s Day.

Fire investigators say the fire caused $50,000 in damage to the house. They say it was set inside the home and a second fire was set in a shed on the property.

She was taken to the Bangor hospital for evaluation and released.

Investigators say they still aren’t sure where Jerome was for that week-long period, but they believe she had sought shelter in some buildings in the area. The fish hatchery is 12 miles from her home on Town Farm Road in Bucksport.

Jerome was taken to the Hancock County Jail.
