An abandoned building in New Gloucester is a complete loss after a large fire late Saturday night on Sabbathday Road.
New Gloucester Firefighters say five other departments were brought in because of the size of the fire, which was knocked down with tank water from an engine.
“While units were en route, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputies reported that the structure was well involved, and the all hands was struck bringing additional resources and sending an engine to a water supply,” said New Gloucester Fire Rescue Captain Chris Gill in a statement.
The fire proved to be a challenge, due to the condition of the building.
Gill said the building is a complete loss, although the building was already abandoned and a loss.
Crews stayed on scene until after 1 a.m. on Sunday to extinguish hot spots and perform overhaul to minimize the risk of a rekindle.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries.
Other departments assisting with the fire included Gray Fire Rescue, Poland Fire Rescue, Raymond Fire Rescue, Windham Fire Rescue and Auburn Fire.
Approximately 8000 total gallons of water was used to extinguish the blaze, with the water supply being established at a pressurized hydrant in Gray, according to Chief Gill.
