Traffic is back to normal on the Maine Turnpike after a car fire snarled traffic flow southbound through Scarborough Monday afternoon.
The Maine Turnpike Authority reported a car fire near the Scarborough exit at Cabela’s just after 2:30 pm.
All lanes were closed in the next 20 minutes, leading traffic to backup at I-295 and on to southbound 295.
The Turnpike Authority reported major delays before all lanes reopened by 3:41 pm, more than an hour after the car fire was first reported.
The traffic alert was canceled just before 4:30 pm on the Turnpike as traffic flow had returned to normal.
It’s not clear if there were any injuries in the car fire.
