A rite of passage returned to Portland Friday.

Nearly 100 seniors from Casco Bay High School marched toward their future, down Congress Street, to the post office, to mail their college applications.

The event was scaled back last year, but came back in full force Friday.

Some students mailed letters to a significant adult in their life who supported their education, according to our news-partners at CBS13.

Afterwards, the students then went to city hall, where they were greeted by city and school leaders, and the rest of the student body, who cheered them on.

“This is really important to us because this is our first chapter into adulthood and being independent, and sending our letters and everything,” Casco Bay High School senior Andy Mugisha said.

The school says it strives for 100 percent of its grads to be accepted to college and is close to that goal at 98 percent.
