Amid the Coronavirus concerns, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland has announced the suspension of all daily and Sunday masses in Maine.

“These are unprecedented circumstances,” Bishop Robert P. Deeley said in a news release. “I join with many bishops across the country in making this decision in response to the continuing threat of COVID-19.”

The Portland Press Herald reports there are more than 140 active Catholic churches in Maine.

“In this diocese, our parishes are places of welcome where all can encounter Jesus, but they must also be communities that look after the most vulnerable among us.”

Bishop Deeley will offer a Mass each Sunday at 10 a.m. from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

The cathedral will not be open to the public, but a livestream will be available. Click here for more information on that livestream and other ways to tune in.
