AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) The chief justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court is pressing for more funding for courthouse security and for higher wages for the state’s judges.

Chief Justice Leigh Saufley told lawmakers Tuesday in her State of the Judiciary address there’s staffing for courthouse security screening for 65% of court days. She says it would take $1.5 million to pay the salaries of an additional 19 court marshal positions to achieve 100% security screening.

She also said judges work hard and that their compensation should be increased.
