PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Maine is grappling with messy winter-like conditions as cold rain, snow and ice descend on much of the state.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for inland Maine due to icy roads. The same advisory was lifted for coastal Maine by Sunday morning, but residents were still advised to drive carefully on one of the biggest travel days of the year.

The state’s also dealing with closures in many areas. Lots of morning church services were canceled in parts of the state where driving and weather posed dangers. Religious education was also canceled in many places, as were some other scheduled events and bus services.
