PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Central Maine Power is fighting the public advocate’s request to release confidential documents related to high power bills experienced by some customers last winter.
The Bangor Daily News reports that the documents are part of an investigation launched by the Maine Public Utilities Commission on March 20. The investigation is looking at technical aspects of CMP’s billing and metering system.
CMP contends that releasing confidential documents would be burdensome because the utility would have to redact sensitive information.
A lawyer said in a filing Wednesday that CMP already has filed more than 10,000 pages of confidential customer information, and “many more thousands” of pages could still be disclosed.
Public Advocate Barry Hobbins said it shouldn’t be a burden he’s not asking for all of the information.
