Powerful wind, rain storm in Maine knocks out power to thousands of CMP customers


Strong gusty winds have led to thousands of outages for Central Maine Power customers.

The utility is reporting thousands of outages, with Cumberland, Sagadahoc, Kennebec and Somerset Counties among the hardest hit areas.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory until 2 p.m. Thursday.

Forecasters had said wind gusts could get up to 50 mph, and rain would be very heavy at times.

Some areas are getting heavy snow, with some inland and mountain areas expecting a foot or more.

The weather has led to some schools closings, including Skowhegan and Oxford Hills.
