BATH, Maine (AP)   A pilot program for a seasonal passenger rail service along the coast of Maine has been delayed again, due to track testing.

The Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority had originally scheduled the rail service from Brunswick to Rockland to be ready this summer. It now says it hopes to complete testing by Memorial Day 2020.

The project, dubbed “The Coastal Connection” was projected to extend service from Brunswick, making stops in Bath, Wiscasset, and Newcastle on the way to Rockland for 10 weekends from June to September.

The Portland Press Herald reports the Boston-bound Downeaster currently terminates in Brunswick and had plans to connect midcoastal towns to 12 other communities between the service.

The pilot program was intended to determine if there was interest in making the extension permanent.
