PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Sara Gideon says she brought in more than $1 million in the week since she announced her candidacy.

Gideon announced her bid to unseat Republican Sen. Susan Collins on June 24, seven days before the campaign finance reporting deadline. Her figures, released Tuesday, could not be confirmed with the Federal Election Commission because her official report had not yet been submitted.

Democrat Betsy Sweet also is in the race.

Collins’ eventual challenger will be able to tap into a $4 million fund created after Collins voted to confirm President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court selection Brett Kavanaugh last year.

Collins, who easily won reelection in 2014, had $3.8 million on hand in April. Her latest campaign report had not been filed as of Tuesday.
