WASHINGTON (AP) – Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine says a Supreme Court nominee who would overturn the Roe v. Wade ruling legalizing abortion would “not be acceptable” to her.

Collins said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that Roe v. Wade “has been established as a constitutional right for 45 years.” She said a nominee who’d seek to overturn that decision “would indicate an activist agenda that I don’t want to see a judge have.”

Collins was among a half-dozen senators who met Thursday with Republican President Donald Trump about the vacancy that’s being created by the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy.

She says she told him she wants a nominee most of all with “a respect for precedence.” She said she got the feeling that Trump is still weighing his options.
