LEWISTON, Maine (AP) A community group is volunteering to patrol the Maine park where a man was beaten to death.

The project, known as “Peace in the Park,” is the latest in a series of attempts the city of Lewiston has made to bolster safety in and around the park following the death of Donald Giusti. The Sun Journal reports efforts have included a curfew and more security cameras.

Volunteers are being trained by the Immigrant Resource Center of Maine in conflict de-escalation techniques. They will work in pairs in the park and will be easily identifiable as safety volunteers by wearing matching T-shirts.

The 38-year-old Giusti was critically injured at Kennedy Park in June during a fight between two groups. He later died from his injuries.
