Conviction of Man Who Shot Wife in Home Invasion Is Upheld

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) A federal appeals court is affirming the conviction and life sentence of a New Hampshire man who was arrested in connection with a home invasion and shooting in Maine in 2014.

Sixty-two-year-old Gregory Owens, of Londonderry, New Hampshire, was sentenced in federal court in July 2016 following a 10-day trial. Testimony in the trial indicated that Owens drove from New Hampshire to Maine intending to kill his wife, who was an overnight guest at the home of friends in Saco.

Authorities say Owens shot his wife and the owner of the home. Both survived. Owens filed an appeal of his sentence, challenging evidence presented at trial, among other things.

The First Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the conviction and sentence on Tuesday. Owens’ attorney didn’t return a call seeking comment.
