PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Maine’s high court has tossed an appeal filed by a man who killed his ex-girlfriend in June 2015 and led police on the longest manhunt in state history.

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court upheld Tuesday the conviction of 41-year-old Robert Burton. He received a 55-year prison sentence last year.

Burton argued prosecutors should not have told the jury about his previous convictions and his attorney’s questions should have been included on forms for potential jurors.

Justices said the questionnaire covered Burton’s proposed questions adequately. Justices said the court weighed which convictions to discuss.

Authorities say Burton fatally shot the victim three times in the back with her own handgun. Burton evaded officers for 68 days and eventually turned himself into jail.

Burton’s attorney declined to comment.
