The Maine CDC is now investigating a new COVID-19 outbreak at a long-term care community in Lewiston.

According to our info partners at CBS 13 News, 71 people at the Russel Park Rehabilitation and Living Center have tested positive for coronavirus, as of Sunday afternoon.

According to officials at the facility, the first case was reported on November 4 and as of November 8, 52 residents and 19 staff members have tested positive.

Those diagnosed have been kept in private rooms and monitored closely for new symptoms. Officials say so far most residents have mild symptoms.

“Right now, in Maine, long-term care facilities are a particular area of concern with eight facilities experiencing outbreaks right now. That number could continue to increase as more cases become detected in the community those individuals who may work in settings like long-term care facilities, hospitals, and even in our schools could continue interacting in their workplaces and potentially introduce the virus into those places where we know vulnerable individuals are such as long-term care facilities,” said Dr. Shah.

The Maine CDC outbreak response team is working with Russel Park to get more testing and personal protective equipment.
