SANFORD, Maine (WGAN) Three members of the Sanford Fire Department have tested positive for COVID-19.

Eric Beecher is president of the Sanford Firefighters Association, Local 1624.

He said he was under the impression the Maine CDC would test individuals from the department and provide the results as soon as possible. However, according to reports Monday morning, Beecher said 10 members were still waiting for their results more than 72 hours after they were tested.

Professional Firefighters of Maine president Michael Crouse said the administration of Gov. Janet Mills needs to ensure that first responders are given top priority when it comes to testing. He added that results must come back in a timely fashion to better protect first responders and the communities they serve.
