Crash in North Berwick involving truck and Amtrak train leaves 1 dead

One person was killed when an Amtrak Downeaster train heading to Boston hit a truck in North Berwick on Thursday afternoon.

Police said Route 4 in North Berwick was closed near the train tracks, with the train remaining in place for hours after the crash.

The police chief told WMTW-TV the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and there were no other occupants.

He said the investigation is still in the early stages.
