WATERBORO, Maine (WGAN) A mother and two children were sent to the hospital with minor burns after a fire at a house in Waterboro on Friday morning.

According to our info partners at CBS 13 news, the fire broke out at a home on Sokokis Trail, or Route 5, around 9 a.m. Fire officials said the three people suffered minor burns and were sent to the hospital.

A detour was put in place to go around that section of Route 5 while crews battled the fire.

Fire Chief Matt Bors said fire crews struggled to fight the fire due to cold temperatures, and that getting water to the remote location was a challenge. The fire was put out and firefighters remained on scene into the afternoon to deal with hot spots.

The home is a total loss, but firefighters were able to save some Christmas presents.
