New inmates are being diverted to other jails while current inmates are now restricted to their cells 23 hours a day because of a COVID-19 outbreak on top of a major shortage of corrections officers.  They only have 61 officer positions filled and 67 positions open.  10 of those officers are on medical leave after testing positive for the coronavirus.

There are 257 inmates currently at the jail who are only allowed out of their cells to order food or to shower, up to a max of 40 minutes per day.  The inmates are rotated out of their cells in groups to maintain social distancing.

New prisoners are being brought to York County Jail in Alfred or the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
