Data breach of web company reveals personal information of 190 Mainers

A data breach targeting a web company that has connections with far-right fringe groups has impacted nearly 200 Mainers.

According to the Portland Press Herald, 190 Mainers were among the 11,000 people impacted nationwide by the data breach at Epik, a Washington-based company, on September 13th.

Hackers with the group Anonymous seized credit card information, email addresses, and web domain transactions during the breach.

Epik has been criticized for working with far-right groups including the Proud Boys.

The company says it will investigate the breach and cooperate with authorities. It’s also offering free identity protection services to customers who were affected.
