HAMPDEN, Maine (WGAN) Investigators say the owner of a Hampden home died in a fire Monday night.

Shannon Moss with the Maine Department of Public Safety says crews were called to the home on Kennebec Road around 10:30 p.m.

The remains that were discovered inside were taken to Augusta for an autopsy, but it’s believed the victim was 71-year-old Paul Spaulding, who lived alone at the residence.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
