Death of New York teen in Machias ruled a homicide

MACHIAS, Maine (WGAN) Maine State Police are investigating the death of a person in Machias as a homicide.

Police responded to the area of High Street around 12:30 Thursday morning to a report of gunshots but didn’t find anything suspicious. Later that morning, a man’s body was found on a lawn on High Street.

The victim’s identity hasn’t been released, but investigators say he was a 17-year-old from New York. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday.

Police are asking anyone with information about what happened to come forward.

They don’t believe there’s any ongoing threat to the public.
