Democrats tear into GOP Sen. Collins over acquittal vote


Democrats want to make Republican Sen. Susan Collins’ vote to acquit President Donald Trump into another Brett Kavanaugh moment for her, invoking the last time the senator considered breaking from her party in such a high-profile vote.

Democrats believe Collins’ mind was made up all along, before Wednesday’s vote. Maine Democratic Party Chairwoman Kathleen Marra called the senator’s actions a “craven political charade.”

Collins said that whether or not people agree with her vote that she hopes they’ll see that she approached the impeachment trial in a deliberative, thoughtful manner.
