Deputy Bitten by Dog in Waterboro

WATERBORO, Maine (WGAN)  A sheriff’s deputy is being treated after he was bitten by a dog Monday evening.

The York County Sheriff’s Office says Civil Deputy Michael Grovo was serving an eviction notice on Pole Line Drive when it happened.

Police say he was serving the notice when the recipient went into his home to find conflicting paperwork related to his civil case.  Police say that’s when one of the man’s dogs bit the deputy on the upper thigh.

Police say the deputy got the dog off, but it attacked again and Deputy Grovo shot the dog.

The owner told police the one-year-old pitbull mix has never been aggressive in the past.  It also hadn’t had it’s rabies shot, because of an ongoing medical issue.

The Waterboro animal control office took the dog to Augusta to be tested for rabies.

Grovo was treated at a local hospital for puncture wounds and released.
