Dogs must now be kept on leashes at popular Portland park, city says

The City of Portland says dogs in the city’s Baxter Woods park must now be leashed at all times.

The city says dog owners will be required to keep their dogs on leashes between April 1st and July 31st. The new rules, approved by the city council in October, went into effect Thursday. They’re aimed at protecting migratory bird nesting sites in the park.

Dogs will also need to be on leashes year-round in the Habitat Restoration Area, which includes the Northern Carriage Path and all areas north of there.

The city said park rangers will be strictly enforcing the new rules, and tickets will be given out for violations.
