Driver Arrested Following Police Chase

WATERBORO, Maine (WGAN)  A Lyman man is facing charges after a police chase early Thursday morning.

The York County Sheriff’s Office says around 6 a.m. Thursday, a deputy was driving on Main Street when another driver unsafely passed his fully marked cruiser.  The deputy tried to pull the driver over, but they fled.

Police say the chase went 20 miles, but did not involve excessive speeds.  Police say, instead, the driver tried to use evasive maneuvers.

The chase came to an end on Townhouse Road.  Police say a Maine State Police cruiser was damaged in the chase.

36-year-old Travis Dewitt was arrested and charged with felony eluding a police officer and violation of bail conditions of release.

Police say he is not eligible for bail and will be arraigned Friday.
