Driver dies after dump truck overturns in Oxford County

The driver of a dump truck was killed when the vehicle overturned in the town of Peru on Thursday.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office says the driver, 40-year-old Michael Averill of Buckfield, was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. Thursday near Greenwoods Road and Auburn Road.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the truck on its side.

Averill was hauling gravel for Everett Excavation based out of West Paris.

Police said he was not wearing a seat belt.
