Police say a Maine man was killed when the dump truck he was driving rolled over in New Gloucester on Wednesday.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says police responded to the single vehicle crash on Lewiston Road in New Gloucester a little after 11 a.m. The commercially-owned truck used to haul debris was being driven by 67-year-old Richard Parent of Litchfield.

Police say the truck left the road, struck a ditch at the end of the driveway, and then rolled into the middle of the road where it caught fire. Witnesses tried to help the driver, who was trapped in the vehicle.

Parent couldn’t be freed from the wreckage and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are reconstructing the crash.
