A fire at a mobile home in Kittery has taken the life of a 52 year old man.

Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland said firefighters found the body of Shaun Flaherty, Jr. after knocking down the early Saturday morning fire on Dana Avenue in Kittery. McCausland said it appears to have started in the kitchen-living room area of the mobile home. The fire left the mobile home destroyed, and investigators could not determine what caused the fire.

McCausland said neighbors reported the fire around 4 a.m. and firefighters found the man’s body in the bedroom. Flaherty lived alone in the home.

Dave Keeffe-Hobbs is a neighbor and friend of Shawn Flaherty; He says the fire across the street woke him up at 4am and the flames were so intense they damaged his car. The fire department says the flames were so massive they evacuated neighbors in fear of the fire spreading to other homes.

McCausland said Flaherty’s death is already the fourth in a Maine fire this year.

Neighbors described Flaherty as good man taken too early by tragedy.
