A street closure in downtown Portland went into effect Friday due to what the city says is an “unforeseen incident” related to construction work in Congress Square.

City spokesperson Jessica Grondin says High Street is closed from Spring Street to Congress Street for emergency utility repair work involving underground fiber connectivity.

The closure is expected to last several days.

All non-industrial and commercial traffic is being detoured from High Street onto Spring Street.

Grondin says industrial and commercial traffic should use West Commercial Street to St. John Street and Commercial Street to Franklin Street to avoid the closure.
