Erskine student succumbs to injuries suffered in crash

Erskine Academy in South China opened its doors Sunday to provide emotional support and counseling after the death of a 17-year-old student.

Remy Pettingill was seriously injured in a crash on Dec. 30.

His parents revealed in a series of journal entries on caringbridge.org that Remy had succumbed to his injuries.

Steven Trask, 39, of Topsham was charged with operating under the influence following the crash.

Police say Trask sideswiped a tractor-trailer and crashed on I-295 in Richmond, causing a secondary crash that left Pettingill seriously hurt.

Erskine Academy’s headmaster said counselors would remain at the school this week to continue providing support to students.
