The Fire Marshal’s Office says a fatal fire in Old Town on Sunday was caused by the improper disposal of smoking material.

The fire broke out at a multi-unit apartment building on Stillwater Ave. around a.m. Sunday.

One resident got out safely, while another, 71-year-old Banton Foster, was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries.

Investigators say there were working smoke detectors in the building.
