Father of boy killed in Standish crash dies at hospital

The father of an 8-year-old boy who died in a crash in Standish on Saturday has succumbed to the injuries he suffered in the wreck.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says 51-year-old Vincent Oates died at Maine Medical Center in Portland Thursday evening.

His son, Owen Oates, died at the scene.

His wife, 46-year-old Kerry Oates, remained in the hospital in serious condition Friday morning.

Deputies say three vehicles were involved in the crash on Chadbourne Road, which is also Route 35.

The wreck remains under investigation, though police have said icy road conditions likely played a role in the crash.
