A Vassalboro family has been displaced just days before Christmas after their house caught fire early Saturday morning.

The Vassalboro Fire Department responded to a report of a fire on Mathews Ave at 2:18 a.m. They quickly put out the flames but deemed the house a total loss.

All family members got out of the residence safely and the American Red Cross has been contacted to assist the family.

The Vassalboro Fire Department says the extent of the damage has made it difficult to determine the cause the fire at this time.

A GoFundMe page has been started to help the family get back on their feet and physical donations such as household items, clothes and furniture can be left at The Mill in Vassalboro until Christmas.
