A 60-year-old man is recovering from smoke inhalation after a fire heavily damaged his home in Farmington Saturday.

Farmington firefighters were called to the scene at 10 Roberta Street just before 3 pm, and say they were able to suppress the large fire, although the home received significant fire and smoke damage.

They say homeowner Colin Mulhern narrowly escaped the home and was assisted from the home’s back deck by a neighbor.

Mulhern was taken to Maine General Medical Center in Augusta and was subsequently flown by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The Farmingdale Fire Department requested assistance from the Maine Office of State Fire Marshal to conduct an origin and cause investigation.

State Fire Marshal investigators determined that the fire originated on or near a couch in the living area.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
