Police say a man has been charged with two counts of murder after crews discovered two bodies in a home while responding to a fire in Limington.
The bodies of a man and woman were discovered after crews put out a fire at a home on Hardscrabble Road early Thursday morning.
Earlier in the day, police said they were questioning a person of interest in the case. According to CBS 13, he was later charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths. He was identified as Matthew Cote.
Investigators said they also believe they know who the victims are, but were awaiting the results of an autopsy expected Friday before releasing their identities.
Sheriff’s deputies were seen searching the area with guns drawn before they put yellow tape around the home. Shannon Moss with the Maine Department of Public Safety says the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Maine State Police’s Major Crimes Unit South were called in to investigate. The York County Sheriff’s Office is assisting.
