BAR HARBOR, Maine (AP) Investigators say a house fire in Bar Harbor that caused the home to collapse into its basement killed two family members and injured two others.

The fatal blaze happened on Sunday morning. Authorities say the 21/2-story home collapsed, and the fire was reported at about 8 a.m. Investigators had to use an excavator to remove rubble, and bodies of two people were recovered later in the day.

Authorities say the fire was reported by an occupant of the house, who told a dispatcher that he and his son had escaped, but his wife and other son were still in the house. Police have not identified the names of the four people involved.

The Maine Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is expected to conduct an examination on Monday.
